What is CBT
CBT is a talking therapy that explores your thoughts, feelings, somatic sensations and behaviours towards a current difficulty. CBT is a really effective treatment for many different problems, and this is why it is recommended by WHO (World Health Organisation) and NICE (National Institute of Clinical Excellence) as the gold standard treatment for anxiety and depressive disorders.
What happens in CBT Therapy?
In CBT sessions we will work collaboratively to form a shared understanding of the difficulties you are facing. Together, we will develop strategies to overcome these difficulties.
Examples of this could be by learning ways to challenge self-critical thoughts, and learning ways to talk to yourself with more compassion, or making changes to an unhelpful or repetitive behaviour, so that you feel unstuck and empowered to make further positive changes.
CBT is an active therapy, this means that outside of sessions, clients practice new strategies, that were explored in session. This is always done in collaboration with the client, and is informed by what the client feels achievable, and is in line with their therapy goals.
How can CBT help me?
CBT is a really effective and empowering therapy. It enables clients to understand themselves better and have more compassion for themselves and their struggles, whilst simultaneously learning new skills and ways of thinking so that they can face and overcome current difficulties.
